You might think to yourself, ‘I’m so fat, I’m not beautiful.’ Or, ‘Why do I not look anything like Skinny Sally, my gorgeous size 6 neighbour?

Now, fun fact, studies have shown that the average American woman is a size 16. I know! I’m surprised too. If we had to judge based on what the media chooses to show us, I would say America consisted of only size 6 to 8 women.

If you were to conclude that you are flawed based on the fact that everyday people would say mean things to you about your size, then the only flaw you have is listening to people whose opinions do not matter at all. Besides, people will always talk. Just as you are told to eat less and work out more, Sally is being told to eat more. It’s not personal; they just need something to talk about.

Guess what! There is also absolutely nothing that Skinny Sally can do that you cannot do yourself. You are just used to seeing people that look like her, all over the media. And just like you think there’s nothing wrong with Sally, you should think you’re perfect, just the way you are.

Imagine a world where everyone was a size 18, men and women alike. That would be boring and bland, wouldn’t it? It’s like a buffet that serves just beans. Where are the options, please?

Remember, variety is the spice of life. The same way you wish you looked like your neighbour, she might just be wishing she looked like you, too. And that’s unhealthy for the mind because unless your health is being put at risk, you should be happy in your skin. Might as well, since you can’t just take it off the same way you take your clothes off.

You might face some rejection along the way, from career, love interests, and other endeavours. It’s disappointing and saddening, and you are allowed to feel sad for a while. You’re human after all. Do not think these things are your fault. It’s not okay to feel inadequate or depressed. It’s on them for judging you based on face value and not what lies within.

The world can be a cruel place sometimes, but it is necessary to remember that self-love is the most essential ingredient in the formula your life is based on. There isn’t anybody that doesn’t get hate, regardless of size. You might get it more often than others due to stereotypes that get passed around. Your job is to prove to yourself that you are more than those stereotypes and you are amazing and will keep doing amazing things. Eventually, the world will have no choice but to fall in love with you too.

Anywhere that you are not accepted the way you are, does not deserve you. Anybody that tries to change you and tell you how you should look should not be in your life.  Any change you make should be because you want to make them for your wellbeing. Protect your mind and body. Practice self-love and stay happy.
